Barack Obama victory tweet

The US elections 2012 have finally came to an end with the victory of Democrat, Barack Obama. He celebrates on twitter by posting a picture of hugging his wife Michelle and became the most popular tweet of all time. It was shared more than 400,000 times within a few hours of being posted, and marked as a favourite by more than 70,000. He then retweeted "This happened because of you. Thank you." gaining another 200,00 retweets!

My opinion: It's amazing to who you can connect with through social networks like twitter. Normal citezens are able to contact with one of the worlds most powerful man, the President of the United States; it really proves how the media world we live in today has changed and evolved to such great lengths that we could talk to any celebrities that we're a fan of. It allows us to get closer to them as they've removed that barrier.

Five charged over naming woman raped by footballer on Twitter and Facebook

Former Sheffield United striker Ched Evans was jailed for five years.
Five more people have been charged with revealing the identity of a woman raped by footballer Ched Evans on Facebook and Twitter, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
The total number of people charged over publishing material online that was likely to lead to identification of the victim now stands at nine.
Jim Brisbane, chief crown prosecutor for CPS Cymru-Wales, said
"All five have been charged by North Wales Police and bailed to appear before Prestatyn magistrates' court on the 5 November.
Dominic Green, 23, from Rhyl, and Alexandra Hewitt, 24, from Broughton, were charged on Monday for allegedly publishing messages revealing the victim's identity on Facebook.
Former Sheffield United and Wales striker Evans was jailed for five years at Caernarfon Crown Court on 20 April for raping a 19-year-old woman in a Rhyl hotel room.
Following the trial, the victim was allegedly named and subjected to abuse on Twitter and other social networking websites.
More than a dozen arrests were made, with North Wales Police saying the alleged online comments were "profoundly disturbing" and contributed to the victim's "continued trauma".

My opinion: Ched Evans, Sheffield United striker; evrything celebs do are in the public eye so committing a shameful crime such as rape was a bad idea to start with, people were definately going to find out in the end. On top of that, unveiling the victims identity on a social network must be so hard on the 19 year old but i guess by revealing it on facebook and twitter the police were able to identify Ched Evans as the culprit.

Samsung gets Galaxy tablet sales ban lifted in US

Samsung is now allowed to sell their Galaxy Tab 10.1in the US after a court has lifted a temporary sales ban. Samsung has already been fined $1billion for infringing Apple patents and the designs were very similar. Samsung filed a motion on Monday against Apple in a California court saying the iPhone 5 had infringed some of the company's patents – and indicated that it will begin legal action aimed at banning it from sale in the US, a move which could cripple Apple's business. The worlds largest smartphone maker is said to be samsung (ahead of Apple) but isnt in the tablet market; Samsung's tabs sold about 2 million in the second quarter of this year, on the other hand Apple sold 17 million iPads. The world's top two smartphone makers are locked in patent disputes in 10 countries as they vie to dominate the lucrative market. The injunction on the Galaxy tablet had been put in place ahead of the month-long trial which Apple won in the US. However, the jury found that Samsung's tablet had not violated Apple's D'889 "trade dress" patent – essentially covering the cosmetic appearance of the iPad – which was the basis for the tablet injunction, and the Korean firm argued the sales ban should be lifted.

My Opinion: I think that both companies are using any excuse to sue each other so that they can get the best sales and reputaion. So they do by any means necessary to be on top. Also if companies are in dispute they shouldn't be using the courts and on top of that, countersueing. "fight fire with fire and you'll only get burned" which is whats happening, both Apple and Samsung are having to pay out immenses amount of money and face bad publicity.

Media Presentation: My own evaluation& Learner response

For my presentation I dont think I used enough hand gestures or enough eye contact. but because I'm not used to presenting in front of the class, with more experience I will have more confidence to do more actions and speak with a better flow. Also I dont think my presentation looked attractive and was quite plain, i should've used a better background with more colour so the audience would stay engaged and listen to what I'm saying. And because of what topic i chose most people wouldn't have heard of it so i could've used a kpop video that was a more typical type to its genre.

Learners Response:
Globalisation/Americanisation; the more recent kpop videos have been 'americanised' in a sense that the more newer videos lacks that typical cutesy korean pop style. For example Psy's Gangnam Style which has now gone viral across several countries around the world, isnt conforming to the norms and values of korean pop music; the exposed women (doing yoga), the lyrics. but maybe thats what it takes to become successful in the music industry.
Global villiage; Mcluhan descibed how the globe has been contracted into a villiage by electric technology. Social networking sites like twitter allows the public to access information and discuss issues or hot topics. in this example; kpop idols are able to communicate with their fans and also post up information about upcoming events, new songs/albums, concerts etc. Therefore making it easier for fans to follow them.

iPhone 5: Apple sells 5m in first three days!

In the first three days of the launch Apple had already sold five million iPhone 5s, but unfortunately it didnt meet the expectations of the company. Although, it did break Apple's record from its last launch of the iPhone 4s; last year Apple sold about 4 million iPhone 4S' in its opening week and this year the iPhone 5 sold a million more. But this could be because the new device had a bigger launch being available in 2 more countries then it's last launch. Moreover more than two million cutomers pre-ordered the iPhone 5 beating the 4S twice over. "Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible, and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible," said Apple chief executive Tim Cook. At the moment only nine countries are selling the iPhone 5 but that would hopefully expand by the end of the year to more than 100."On any metric, this is a success. It's one million more units than last time. But this is Apple, and given the expectations on this company, they have to not just set records – they have to smash them."- Collin Gills, a technology analyst in New York. It was expected by Apple to sell 25 million devices in September but because a lot of people already have smartphones the market is slowing down and Apple may not hit its targets.
"By mid-morning, Apple's shares had fallen $10 to $690.09. The shares closed the day down $9.30 at $690.79."

In my opinion i agree with Collin Gills, because of Apple's immense reputation they should be exceeding their targets exponentially, but then again the craze for smartphones has decreased and some people just wouldn't want to spend an extra £500 for a phone that they dont really need because they already have a phone that caters to their needs. The release of the iPhone 5 didnt do as great but it didn't fail so I'd still call it a success! :)
